We're very pleased to announce our next group of speakers for the TEDxCity 2.0 event on October 13th!
Mark Hopkins - Many will know him as the organizer behind the city-wide "We Should Know Each Other" (WSKEO) parties, but Mark has been involved in holding impromptu community events for much longer. He's a playright, a community builder, a producer, and has been named as one of 20 Compelling Calgarians for 2011.
Kevin McNichol - Kevin has the unique opportunity of going to work knowing that what he does could save a life today, or turn one around. The downside is that he knows that every minute of every day, there's someone out there suffering from the trauma of domestic violence, and that for some it's a death sentence if they don't get the help they need. Join him as he takes us on a very innovative approach to building more community safety in Calgary by collaborating to save lives.
The iGEM Team - They're our first "team" speaker... a group of very bright and talented University of Calgary students who are competing (even on the day of our event!) in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition for synthetic biology. So, if you thought your hobbies were interesting, you'll be fascinated by these students whose education and play time centres on building socially-beneficial life forms (like organisms that can eat tailings pond by-products and other environmental pollutants for breakfast).
You? - For the first time ever, we're introducing the chance for our registered participants to take to the TEDxCalgary stage as part of our Participant Talks 180 program. Learn more about it right here.
Yes, there's still time and room to buy a ticket! Go to our event page to learn more about our speakers and to register for the event...
