TEDxCalgary Theme Launch!

TEDxCalgary is very pleased to launch our event theme, titled Humanity 3.0: Leadership the World Needs Now.

The event theme is a deliberate answer to the TED2010 theme of "What the World Needs Now". At a time of increasingly complex challenges and seemingly unresolvable issues, TEDxCalgary is an opportunity to take stock of the leadership assets we have at hand and think about what types of leadership — from all sectors of society — we need going forward.

This includes our youth, who provide us with an abundance of talent and energy for the future, if only we can engage them in meaningful ways. It also includes our elders in society, who form a deep pool of wisdom that we often leave untapped and marginalized.

At the same time, we face our own human failings. Our penchant for conflict has been one of our greatest weaknesses throughout time, and is the seed of our human downfall. Likewise, we face the risk of deepening poverty — itself a potential source of current and future conflict — in many parts of the world at a time when we've never had as much abundance in wealth and prosperity as a species.

The times we're in call for a reflection on our humanity, and the way we seek to change ourselves going forward. Join us on April 29, 2010 for a day of deep thinking and exciting prospects for actions and ideas that can help change our world... together.
